Well, yeah… for the most part.  We're all ready for the comfortable weather Spring ushers in.  The warm days and cool nights, it's just what the doctor ordered.  Hold on, not so fast!

Spring is a favorite time of year for most living creatures including ticks, mosquitoes, bees and wasps.  Since many of us like to spend time outdoors in the Spring, we need to take precautions to protect ourselves from these creatures.

Mosquito Feeding

The prime “biting hours” for most Florida mosquitoes are between dusk and dawn.  So, if you're going to be out and about in the yard or maybe doing some evening fishing, you should protect yourself with an insect repellent.  There are several brands to choose from.

American Dog Tick (male & female)

Ticks can be a real problem along the boundaries of your yard, especially if it's bordered by natural woodlands.  Pets and even humans can pick up ticks from these areas.  You may enjoy hiking or walking trails in nearby city parks.  These areas are often a resource zone for ticks, so be sure to protect yourself with an insect repellent.

Honey Bee on Flower

During the Spring warm up, bees and wasps are out collecting nectar from flowers for needed carbohydrates to build their nest.  Iced tea, cola and other sweet Spring and Summer beverages are very attractive to these stinging insects.  Make sure you check your glass or soda can before you take that giant gulp.  A sting in the mouth (or worst yet, the throat) could be very painful and even life threatening!

With just a little bit of precaution, you can ward off and stay clear of these stinging and biting insects.  Now, go enjoy the flowers and other wonders of Spring!
