Unfortunately, yes—and it’s one of the things that surprises people most about living in Florida. The climate here is warm, humid, and rich with vegetation year-round, and that’s as good for bugs as it is for people. A new build or newly purchased home doesn’t come with a pest-free guarantee, no matter how clean or modern it is.
New construction can actually attract insects during the build process. Exposed wood draws termites and wood-boring beetles. Disturbed soil around the foundation stirs up ants and subterranean termites that were already living there. And once you move in and start running water, cooking, and creating warmth, you’re essentially signaling to pests that the place is now ready.
Older homes have their own entry points that open up over time: gaps in weatherstripping, cracks in stucco, spaces around pipes, and Florida’s insects are very good at finding them.
The good news is that this is manageable. A regular pest control program keeps populations in check before they become a real problem. Starting one early, even before you see anything significant, is by far the smartest approach in Florida.
