Different Types of Types of Rodents in Florida

Species of Rodents in Florida

Florida’s warm and humid climate provides an ideal environment for pests, including rodents. Understanding the common types of rodents in the state is vital for effective rodent control and protecting your Florida home.

The deer mouse, house mouse, Norway rat, and roof rat are all common rodents in Florida. These pests often enter homes in search of food, water, and shelter. The deer mouse is typically found in rural areas but can invade homes, using its agility to access tight spaces. The house mouse, a highly adaptable species, often nests near food sources and poses a risk of contaminating supplies and spreading diseases.

Rats are also significant pests in the state’s homes. The Norway rat, or brown rat, prefers ground-level spaces like basements and crawl spaces, where it can burrow and cause damage. The roof rat, an expert climber, is often found in attics, trees, and upper levels of buildings, exploiting access points to infiltrate homes.
