"Are glue mouse traps a good idea, or is there a better way to deal with mice?"
Do sticky traps work for mice? They can catch them, yes, but they’re not the most effective or humane option out there. Glue mouse traps are flat boards coated with strong adhesive, and when a mouse runs across one, it gets stuck. Sounds simple enough, but the reality is a bit trickier.
For starters, do glue traps actually attract mice? Not on their own; most don’t have any built-in bait, so they rely on a mouse wandering across the right spot (right place, right time), which isn’t very reassuring. Also, what do glue traps do to mice once they’re caught? Unfortunately, the mouse doesn’t die quickly; it can take up to 24 hours or more, which doesn’t sit well with many people.
The bigger issue is that sticky traps only deal with individual mice, but don’t stop more from coming in. So what actually works better? Start with exclusion. Check around pipes, vents, door frames, and cable entry points for gaps. Mice can squeeze through anything pencil-width or bigger. Seal them up with steel wool or caulk, and you’re cutting off the problem at the source.
Snap traps are a faster, more humane alternative. They’re effective, inexpensive, and when placed along walls with a bit of peanut butter, they do the job quickly. Live-catch traps are another option if you’d rather relocate than kill. You should also keep food in sealed containers, clean up stray crumbs, and limit clutter to make your home far less inviting in the first place.
